Q&A With Mattie

Q&A with Mattie

As you probably know, I’m Mattie! What you might not know, though, is that today is my birthday – my GOLDEN birthday to be exact. I figured this would be the perfect time to do a fun little ‘About Me’ Q&A.

For starters, I am the youngest in my family.

I have an older brother and an older sister – best of both worlds. My brother lives in Raleigh, NC, my sister lives here in Nashville, and my parents live in Charleston. I’d say we all picked great cities!

What is your favorite book of all time?

I LOVE Harry Potter. In fact, I love it so much that I read the whole series every single year. I am so drawn to Sirius Black. I really admire his loyalty to his friends. To narrow it down even more, my favorite book in the series is Prisoner of Azkaban and my favorite chapter is: The Servant of Lord Voldemort.

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Breakfast at Tiffany’s or The Goonies

Do you have a favorite movie couple?

Morticia and Gomez Addams

Will you tell us about your obsession with Doctor Who?

Hah, I am definitely obsessed with Doctor Who. So obsessed that I named my business (and all of the trucks) after characters. Also, I actually met Matt Smith (the 11th Doctor) in the Heathrow Airport. Talk about the most embarrassing, yet exciting moment of my life!

What is one thing you collect?

That’s a good question, actually. Before I disclose that, I should give you a little background information: Peter Pan was my favorite story growing up. When I was pretty young, I went through a phase where I insisted on being called Peter Pan. Maybe it was pseudo-science to preserve my childhood, or maybe even an attempt to anchor my wild, innocent spirit for years to come. Either way, Jeremy Sumpter (who played Peter in the live action) was my first true love. HA! I remember having a poster of him above my bed - so dreamy! There have been lots of incarnations of this story over time, but I love the original one the most. Even though it’s much darker than what has been depicted in popular films, I find it to be interesting and fantastic.

So back to the question: I collect the book, Peter Pan, from all of the different countries I visit.

What are some things you can tell us about your style?

I pretty much only wear mixed-matched socks at this point. I have a minimalist style and I don’t really like wearing bright colors, but when I started buying colorful socks, it felt like a fun way to be subtly funky. I guess another fact about my style is that I love wearing hats. I have a wall in my room just for hats.

What did you study in college?

I went to art school. I really enjoy oil painting. Fun fact: I love to paint bearded, old men reading books. Maybe it’s the perception of nostalgia and shrewdness.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Well aside from hanging with close friends and traveling, I do enjoy writing. Documenting my life is a cool way to reflect on who I was, and to see who I am becoming. I also really like to write letters. Many of my letters are never sent, but just the act of writing my feelings down in the form of a letter is therapeutic.

Where is your favorite place to visit?

I love traveling with my whole heart, and I really can find something I love just about everywhere. If I had to narrow it down, though, I’d say Paros, Greece or Paris. I’ve spent 3 summers in Paros, and have friends there that have become more like family. It’s a wonderful place and I do long to go back. Ahh, but I love Paris so much. It’s one of the most beautiful cities, and I do feel like my heart belongs to England. Sometimes I even feel homesick for it. My grandmother says it’s because that’s where our heritage is.

That’s it y’all! A little bit about me :)

Have a great week! xx Mattie
