I am so excited to highlight our next team member of Amelia's Flowers, Pepper Sims! Pepper has been with us for two seasons now and we couldn't do this without her. She has been such a joy to work with. Not only has she been able to expand her love of flowers while working on the trucks but she has used her woodworking skills to help update and modify features on the trucks for us. We love Pepper a lot and want y'all to get to know her a bit more. Check out our Q&A below and be sure to visit her on the trucks and have her build you a BEAUTIFUL bouquet.
Mattie: Did you have any floral experience before working for Amelia's?
Pepper: I had a bit of floral experience, but not in the traditional sense of arranging bouquets in vases. I’m an artist! So before I took on Amelia’s, I was making art with a wide variety of florals. I still am today.
M: What's your favorite flower and why?
P: We actually don’t carry my favorite flower, which is Yellow Forsythia. They look amazing in a tall glass vase. I also like Larkspur, which we sometimes carry. The tall blooming flowers are my jam.
M: What do you enjoy most about working with flowers?
P: No matter what the occasion is, flowers always bring a piece of tranquility, love, & warmth with them. Flowers and plants just bring me so much joy.
M: What do you hope to be doing in 5 years?
P: I'm already doing it. Living my life the way I want to live it. I will say that I would like to vacation more and have a significant other within 5 years though.
M: What's your Passion?
P: Being creative in any way that I can be. I love working with my hands and designing.
M: What do you love to do in your spare time?
P: I rarely have downtime. I’m always go, go, go. I do enjoy hiking, camping, & outdoor roller skating.
M: What were you doing before you worked at Amelia's?/ What are you doing now along with Amelias?
P: Before Amelia’s I was working a management job. It wasn’t my favorite, so I decided to only do things that brought me joy once I left that job. I haven’t looked back since. I’ve started my own business and I’m relaunching my online art store this summer.
M: Any flower tips or tricks you've learned and want to share?
P: Be sure to remove all of the leaves from the stems. This will keep your water from getting super dirty quickly.
M: Last trip you took and your favorite part about it
P: I drove to New Mexico with my mother. She’s never been farther than Memphis, and New Mexico is a favorite place of mine. We went to a lavender farm called Adobe Lavendar farm, Meow Wolf, and the Ojo Caliente Spa in the mountains.
M: If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
P: Well, I read a little of The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz at least once a week. It’s a solid self help book that I live by. Don’t make assumptions, always do your best, don’t take anything personal, and be impeccable with your word.
Thanks Pepper for being a part of the Amelia's Flower Truck team!!
